Students analyze texts through the eyes of a reader and writer and have academic discussions. They work on group projects, create their own compositions, and complete rigorous Performance-Based Assessments.
myPerspectives on Savvas Realize® lets students use technology to make learning come alive with multimedia resources, personalized learning tools, and interactive lessons and video tutorials.
Groundbreaking units guide students through analyzing and creating media projects as they learn how to be a savvy consumer and producer.
myPerspectives incorporates evidence-approaches and research-based strategies, with field study results that show significant gains in student achievement.
Each unit is backward designed from the Performance-Based Assessment and provides a gradual release instructional model. In Whole-Class Learning, the teacher models close reading and writing. In Peer-Group Learning, students work in teams to complete a project. In Independent Learning students apply the skills they’ve learned.
At the end of the unit, students pull together everything they’ve done to complete the Performance-Based Assessment. The teacher role moves from instructor to facilitator, to advisor, and students develop ownership of learning as they set their own goals and work in larger groups, smaller teams, and independently.
Jim is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning of the University of Toronto. His research focuses on literacy development in multilingual school contexts as well as on the potential roles of technology in promoting language and literacy development. In recent years, he has been working actively with teachers to identify ways of increasing the literacy engagement of learners in multilingual school contexts.

Kelly is a literacy education author and consultant, specializing in the teaching of English Language Arts for grades 4-12. Informed by a 35-year teaching career, Kelly has developed and shares an ever-evolving body of work that helps teachers engage and empower even the most reluctant readers and writers. Kelly is the former president of the Secondary Reading Group for the International Literacy Association and the author of several professional development books.

Freddy is President and CEO of TextProject, a nonprofit that provides resources to support higher reading levels. She is also a research associate at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and has worked in the field of early reading acquisition for 45 years, first as a teacher’s aide and teacher of primary-level students in California and, subsequently, as a teacher and researcher.

He was the Macy Professor of English Education and former Director of Teachers College’s Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME), Columbia University; a class of 2014 Fellow of the American Educational Research Association; and the Past-President of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

Monica is is an associate professor of language and literacy in the Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. She formerly coordinated the department’s Secondary Education Program and was a university supervisor of student teachers at the secondary level. She previously taught high school English Language Arts and has worked extensively with middle school teachers and students. Her research centers on students’ and teachers’ approaches to language, literacy, and comprehension; disciplinary literacy; and equitable practices for teaching and learning.

myPerspectives provides a variety of reading opportunities for students to build content knowledge. Texts have been carefully selected to enable students to encounter a wide range of literary and informational texts that include narrative fiction, graphic novel excerpts, speeches, articles, poetry, drama, functional and foundational texts, media, and more.
The Table of Contents identifies the genres of each text included in the program. Texts were chosen based on criteria such as literary merit, author’s craft, themes, gender and cultural representations and experiences, insights, readability, and diversity.
