Students learn science best when they DO science. Experience Physics centers around “doing science” to develop in-depth understanding of content and build key skills. This modern, NGSS-designed program organizes learning around phenomena and authentic, real-world experiences. Students will explore disciplinary core ideas, crosscutting concepts, and science and engineering practices. They’ll encounter “big” phenomena they see on the news as well as local, everyday phenomena that connect directly to their lives.

Experience Physics enables students to learn science by doing science. Features range from phenomena videos and teacher demos to hands-on inquiry labs, PhET™ simulations, and performance tasks. Experience Physics includes extensive hands-on and virtual activities designed to reach every learner. An exclusive partnership with Flinn Scientific gives students access to four versions of every lab, engineering workbenches, and high-quality lab kits.

Instructional Design

 
Experience Physics uses phenomena to engage students in scientific inquiry. The curriculum includes 5 storylines organized around Anchoring Phenomena. There are 2-4 Investigative Phenomena per storyline, and 3-4 Everyday Phenomena experiences for each investigation. Exploration begins with a phenomenon video or class demonstration that introduces and unifes the physics concepts. Students are engaged in sensemaking. They gather information, develop arguments over time, and document their understanding using a Claim-Evidence-Reasoning model.

Assessment

 

Experience Physics is rich with assessment types that work in combination to assess three-dimensional learning. Item types include performance-based tasks, research projects, inquiry investigations, labs, open-ended response questions, multiple choice questions, and drag-and drop questions.

When students take the assessments online in Savvas Realize™, the teacher receives instant feedback on performance, informing instruction based on results.

 

Math Readiness Test
Allows instructors to gauge student understanding before taking the course.

Storyline Assessment
Provides a Problem-Based Learning experience in which students obtain and evaluate information about a related phenomenon and communicate their findings in a written report.

Investigation-Level Assessment
Performance-based assessments measure students’ mastery of the science and engineering practices. Students revisit the Anchoring Phenomenon multiple times as they make sense of the topic.
