Savvas Learning Company’s Programs Approved by Mississippi Department of Education For Evidence-Based Intervention Instruction

SuccessMaker and the iLit Suite align with ESSER funding to help districts address the academic impact of lost instructional time

PARAMUS, NEW JERSEY — August 25, 2021 — The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has named Savvas Learning Company’s SuccessMaker® and the iLit™ Suite programs as approved evidence-based academic interventions for Mississippi students. This follows the MDE’s previous approval for statewide adoption of several leading PreK-12 core literacy solutions offered by Savvas.

Designed to accommodate an array of student learning styles and needs through intervention, differentiation, and personalization, the Savvas programs approved by the MDE are:

  • SuccessMaker®, a proven-effective, continuously-adaptive K-8 reading and math program that personalizes learning for every Mississippi student in a game-like environment, provides real-time instructional insights on student mastery and growth to help Mississippi teachers target instruction to individual learning needs.
  • The iLit™ Suite, a literacy program that accelerates the reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills of all secondary Mississippi students, features a proven instructional model to increase students’ reading ability by up to two grades in one school year.

The latest approval by the MDE’s Office of Intervention Services paves the way for Mississippi school districts to implement Savvas Learning Company’s high-quality instructional materials that are aligned to the science of reading and address unfinished learning. The programs, which feature curricula offering coherence and consistency for learning in person or at home, meet the allowable use requirements of the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER Fund), providing educators with evidence-based programs to help address the academic impact of lost instructional time.

“As teachers and students return to the classroom this school year, addressing the impact of unfinished learning and ensuring grade-level mastery will be of paramount importance,” said Richard Heater, vice president of product management and marketing for supplemental and intervention at Savvas Learning Company. “Our innovative programs, purposefully built for blended learning, offer Mississippi educators the effective and easily implementable solutions they need to meet every student where they are and accelerate academic growth for all students.”

With the recommendation of these Savvas intervention programs, the MDE has made it possible for Mississippi school districts to use all of the products Savvas submitted for adoption or approval. The MDE previously adopted Savvas Learning Company’s leading PreK-12 core curriculum literacy solutions, including:
