Monica is is an associate professor of language and literacy in the Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. She formerly coordinated the department’s Secondary Education Program and was a university supervisor of student teachers at the secondary level. She previously taught high school English Language Arts and has worked extensively with middle school teachers and students. Her research centers on students’ and teachers’ approaches to language, literacy, and comprehension; disciplinary literacy; and equitable practices for teaching and learning.
