Career Connection: Playing Well Together: Art Meets Tech

Janie Bynum

Janie Bynum grew up in Texas and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design. As an author/illustrator, she has created many lovable characters and stories for younger children. Her work has been recognized as a Junior Library Guild Selection.

Loving technology, Janie learned to use an Apple computer in 1986 and has been creating designs and illustrations in the digital world ever since. Learning this technology in the “early days” of digital graphic design inspired her to start her own business in 1987. Originally employing other designers, she now works on her own as a freelancer.

Combining traditional painting methods with digital art, or working exclusively on the computer, Janie loves the flexibility technology provides for her creative process. She enjoys traveling, inspired by the people, landscapes, and cultures she experiences. Technology enables her to work from anywhere in the world—as a graphic designer and as an author/illustrator.

Janie lives in a century-old storybook house in southwest Michigan and spends time in England and France when possible. Visit janiebynum.com (art) or bynumcreative.com (design) for more information.
