Inspire students to consider a future career in science, technology, engineering, and math by participating in conversations with prominent professionals about their STEM Careers, experiencing hands-on STEM lessons and activities, and finding solutions to local or global problems using our free STEM support resources.

Come blast off and launch a lifelong love of all things space and science with Janet's Planet Virtual Astronaut Camp, a camp that creates out of this world engagement with Janet and her team of educators and experts. Each day brings a new mission. You'll Zoom with an astronaut, a pilot, a scientist, a Mars rover specialist, and a mathemagical Genius! You'll have astronaut challenges and hands-on science experiences that will test your budding astronaut skills. Most of all virtual campers will have the opportunity to explore, learn and get a daily dose of science and space that will boost confidence in their STEAM abilities.

Design a Bridge, an earthquake safe building, or a water purification system. The resources on our Experience STEM site provides an opportunity to look at local issues and take it further to global solutions. Use some of the ideas generated to join in the STEM Fair Challenge!

STEM Lesson/Activity: How Earthquakes Knock Down Buildings

Professor Michael Wysession will examine the human risks from earthquake hazards. In a hands-on demonstration, Michael will show how not only the size but also the frequency of the shaking is important in determining whether or not an earthquake will knock down a building.

Michael Wysession has been a Geophysics Professor at Washington University in St. Louis for 30 years, doing research and teaching about earthquakes. Michael is also an international leader in geoscience literacy and education, and was one of the lead authors of the U.S. Next Generation Science Standards.
