In this session, we will discuss the following topics: What is construction, and who is doing it?, A day in the life of a builder, Go anywhere and build anything.

We’ll view three videos, each focusing on a chef at a different level in the culinary world. The focus will be on a line chef, a sous chef, and on one of the premier chefs in the world (Thomas Keller, chef at the French Laundry in Yountville, CA). Each chef will talk about what they do on an everyday basis. Students will learn about the rewards and the difficulties of working in culinary. These are real-world portraits that feature culinary concepts like echoing and the brigade system. We’ll introduce each video and take time to explain some of the culinary terms. Ultimately, students will take away a sense of what it takes to succeed in the exciting world of culinary. The presentation is recommended for current culinary students and those students who are considering entering the culinary profession.

In our session, we'll discuss the training required to become a firefighter, including fire academy courses and EMS training. We'll also discuss how students can move into areas of specialization, like Technical rescue – High Angle, Confined Space, Swift Water, Structural Collapse, Paramedic, Explosive and Ordinance (Bomb Squad), and Inspector/Fire Marshal, or Fire Investigator. We'll end with a quick discussion of a firefighter's life at the station, and what it means to live on a shift-based schedule.

Crime dramas on television, and especially the CSI franchise, have helped promote public interest in forensic science, but they have created unrealistic expectations about the capabilities of forensic disciplines and the roles of forensic scientists. This presentation provides a more realistic view of careers in forensic science, with an emphasis on the education and training requirements to help students achieve their goals.

Loving technology, Janie Bynum learned to use an Apple computer in 1986 and has been creating designs and illustrations in the digital world ever since. Learning this technology in the “early days” of digital graphic design inspired her to start her own business in 1987. Originally employing other designers, she now works on her own as a freelancer.

Headquartered in Wheeling, W.V, the company operates three manufacturing plants throughout the country, producing more than 2 million Twin Pops a day. This session will provide an in depth tour of the production facility, highlighting the science, technology and robotic machinery used to make the products.

Joshua Goldberg is the Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Legends of Learning, a learning metaverse where anyone can learn anything through games. Prior to Legends, Josh served as Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer for Sunlight Financial, the largest consumer focused energy lender in the United States.

An immigrant from Mexico, Karine Chapa-Vargas joined the US Air Force to learn the skills needed to become a Certified Surgical Technologist for the last 20 yrs. She currently works at a level 1 trauma center where she is part of the abdominal transplant team.
