    FETC Profile

  • Description

In this session, Dr. Mike Heithaus will discuss how to inspire, engage, and educate students in STEM by bringing the world of cutting research into the classroom through project-based learning. Dr. Mike will draw on more than 25 years of field research experience as a marine biologist, background hosting television documentaries (including for Discovery’s Shark Week and National Geographic’s SharkFest), and history authoring K-12 science textbooks. Mike and his company Science 3D Adventure recently partnered with Savvas Learning Company on K-8 Savvas Science Explorations for Florida.

Participants in this session will hear about some of the latest technologies and discoveries in marine biology and how these can be used to develop authentic experiences in a classroom setting. The presentation will also model the use of a new science supplemental program – Science 3D – for use in the classroom. All participants will have access to a free Science 3D mission to use in their classrooms and will be given primers on how to use other free project-based learning resources.
